Which should you choose, Lumx or Velocity?
Choose Lumx if the money has to end in a Latin American bank account. A PSP settling Brazilian merchants needs a BRL account with agência and conta and a PIX payout with a purpose code. A payroll platform in Mexico needs a CLABE per worker and SPEI. A lender in Colombia needs PSE and Bre-B behind a COP account. Lumx documents each of these. Velocity's public site and releases mention none of Brazil, Mexico or Colombia, and its press coverage describes Latin America as a market it plans to license for.
Choose Velocity if your problem is prefunding. An acquirer waiting on scheme settlement over a weekend, a card issuer posting collateral with Visa or Mastercard, or a treasury moving balances between entities outside banking hours is the buyer Velocity writes for. Its issuer page says USDC is live for seven-day settlement, its MVB partnership puts it in a Visa Direct pilot, and Thredd has selected it as a technology partner for card programmes.
Teams that need both can run Velocity for scheme settlement and treasury, and Lumx for the Latin American accounts and payouts. Both settle in USDC, so a balance can move between them as a stablecoin transfer, subject to the chains Velocity supports, which it does not publish.
What is Velocity?
Velocity is a stablecoin payments, settlement and treasury platform founded in 2025 and headquartered in London, with offices in Warsaw, New York and Melbourne. Its founder and CEO is Eric Queathem, a former EVP at Worldpay. Velocity Technology Limited (company no. 16204362) and its parent, Velocity Technology Holdings Limited, are registered with Companies House in England. The company raised a $10M pre-seed in May 2025, a $38M Series A co-led by Dragonfly and FirstMark in July 2026, and a $10M extension in September 2026 from Visa Ventures, Circle Ventures, Ripple and others, for $48M in Series A funding. Its site describes three products: payments in "30+ fiat currencies and stablecoins", real-time settlement with no cutoff times for card and acquirer flows, and a treasury layer with rules-based automation and optional third-party yield. Custody runs through Zodia Custody with Fireblocks wallet infrastructure. Its disclosures page lists 12 stablecoins, among them USDC, USDT, EURC, PYUSD, RLUSD and USDG. Partnerships announced in 2026 include MVB Bank for Visa Direct, Thredd for card programmes and CrissCross for Africa. Velocity has not published a licence or registration number; it says it works through licensed partners and is pursuing EMI and MiCA permissions.
What is Lumx?
Lumx is stablecoin payments infrastructure for businesses that move money between Latin America and the rest of the world: one API to collect, hold, convert, and pay out in BRL, MXN, COP, USD, EUR, and GBP or in USDC and USDT, over local rails such as PIX, SPEI, PSE, Bre-B, ACH, FEDWIRE, SEPA, and Faster Payments, with SWIFT and on-behalf-of payments and collections (POBO and COBO) in USD, EUR, and GBP, plus named virtual accounts, custodial wallets, and KYB/KYC built in.
Lumx was founded in 2022 in Rio de Janeiro and is backed by BTG Pactual, the largest investment bank in Latin America. Custodial wallets run in production, segregated per customer, on Ethereum, Polygon, Base and Tron, with Stellar for USDC on-ramps in BRL. In Brazil, Lumx SPSAV Ltda operates under Article 88 of Central Bank Resolution 520/2025; in the US, Lumx US OP LLC is a FinCEN-registered MSB (#31000316459619). Lumx processes more than $2B in annualized payment volume (as of September 2026). Customers include Nomad, Logcomex and Conta Simples.
How do Lumx and Velocity compare?
Model. Both put stablecoins in the middle of a fiat payment and keep them out of the end user's sight. They solve different steps of it. Velocity's pages are about the funding side: an acquirer converting scheme settlement once and paying merchants the same day, an issuer funding Visa or Mastercard obligations in USDC, a treasury sweeping balances between entities, all without waiting for bank cutoffs. Lumx's documentation is about the landing side: a named BRL, MXN or COP account in the customer's name, and a PIX, SPEI, PSE or Bre-B payout with the reference and purpose code the local bank expects. Velocity's public material names no bank rail and no Latin American market; its API reference sits behind a password, so this page reports what it publishes, not what it may support.
Custody. Both are custodial and both keep a wallet per customer. Velocity holds balances with Zodia Custody on Fireblocks infrastructure and describes them as bankruptcy remote and segregated. Lumx custodies USDC and USDT per customer on Ethereum, Polygon, Base and Tron. Velocity lists a wider set of stablecoins, including euro and dollar coins from Circle, Paxos, PayPal, Ripple and Quantoz; Lumx settles in USDC and USDT. Velocity does not publish the chains it runs on.
Pricing and compliance. Neither publishes a rate card: Velocity sells through enterprise quotes and shows the rate at quote time, and Lumx charges a monthly platform fee plus usage-based per-transaction and virtual account fees, with transparent FX on locked quotes and no pre-funding. On regulation the two are in different places. Lumx operates under Article 88 of Central Bank Resolution 520/2025 while its VASP authorization is processed, and is a FinCEN-registered MSB, and runs EUR and GBP through banking partners. Velocity has not published a licence or registration number on its site; it describes conversion, wallet connectivity and custody as performed by licensed partners and says it is working through EMI permissions and MiCA. It reports SOC 2 Type I and claims transaction monitoring, sanctions screening and Travel Rule handling on every flow.
When is Lumx the better fit?
Your payout lands in Brazil, Mexico or Colombia. PIX, SPEI and Bre-B are documented rails behind named BRL, MXN and COP accounts. Velocity's public pages name none of them. See USDC to BRL, USDC to MXN and USDC to COP.
Your customers collect locally. A BRL account with agência and conta, a CLABE and a COP account in the customer's name receive from any local bank. See BRL to USDC.
You need to read the API before you sign. Lumx's reference and changelog are public at docs.lumx.io and accounts open in a sandbox; Velocity's docs require a password.
You need local reporting fields. Purpose codes and holder relationships (supplier, employee, subsidiary) are modeled on every Lumx payment, which Brazilian and Mexican banks require.
Where does Velocity fit?
Velocity does several things Lumx does not do, and this page should say so plainly.
Prefunding relief for card programmes. Funding Visa and Mastercard settlement in stablecoins, with USDC live for seven-day settlement according to its issuer page. Lumx does not settle card-scheme obligations.
Acquirer settlement. Converting scheme settlement once and paying merchants the same day, outside banking cutoffs.
Card-network distribution. Visa Ventures as an investor, a Visa Direct push-to-card pilot with MVB Bank, and Thredd as a card-processing partner.
Treasury automation. A rules engine across entities and balances, with TMS and ERP integrations announced as coming.
A wider stablecoin list. Twelve stablecoins with disclosure documents, including EURC, PYUSD, RLUSD and USDG, where Lumx settles in USDC and USDT.
Investor depth. Dragonfly, FirstMark, Coinbase Ventures, Capital One Ventures, Visa, Circle and Ripple on the cap table within 18 months of founding.
Can you use Lumx and Velocity together?
Yes, if the split is by step. Velocity handles the funding side: scheme settlement, prefunding and treasury across entities. Lumx handles the landing side: the BRL, MXN and COP accounts and the PIX, SPEI and Bre-B payouts Velocity does not publish. Both hold USDC, so a balance can move between them as a stablecoin transfer once both sides agree on a chain; Lumx runs USDC on Ethereum, Polygon and Base, and Velocity does not publish its chains.
How do you migrate from Velocity to Lumx?
Decide what moves. Most teams keep scheme settlement and treasury where they are and move the Latin American payouts and collections. Map those flows first.
Open a sandbox at dashboard.lumx.io. New accounts start in a sandbox with mock banking partners; magic numbers on taxId force approved, rejected or pending verification.
Onboard the customers who receive or collect. Lumx runs KYB for businesses and KYC for individuals, and adds a holder relationship (SUPPLIER, EMPLOYEE, SUBSIDIARY and others) and a purpose code on each payment; collect those fields up front.
Provision the local accounts. Create BRL, MXN and COP named accounts in each customer's name, and USD, EUR or GBP accounts where you need them.
Fund with USDC or USDT. Transfer from your Velocity wallet to the customer's Lumx custodial wallet on a chain both sides support, then request a quote (30 seconds free, one or five minutes for a fee) and pay out over the local rail.
Subscribe to webhooks and run parallel. Send Idempotency-Key on every mutation, reconcile both ledgers for one cycle, then move production traffic. Read the docs or talk to us.
Methodology and sources
This page reflects both companies' public information as of October 2026. Velocity facts come from velocity.xyz (home, about, payments, settlement, treasury, issuers, acquirers and PSPs, stablecoin disclosures), its releases on the Series A and the Zodia Custody partnership, and Companies House, read 31 October 2026. Velocity's API documentation is password-protected and was not read. Lumx facts come from docs.lumx.io and the verified-facts register maintained by the Lumx team. Where Velocity does not publish a capability, this page says so rather than claiming it does not exist. Fortune's report on the Series A was read for markets and plans, and is treated as press, not as a company statement. Third-party comparison pages about Velocity were not used. Spot an error? FAQ
Is Lumx a Velocity alternative for stablecoin payments?
For Latin American corridors, yes: Lumx documents PIX, SPEI, PSE and Bre-B behind named BRL, MXN and COP accounts, and Velocity's public pages name no Latin American rail or market. For prefunding relief in card and acquirer settlement, Velocity covers a job Lumx does not.
Can you use Lumx and Velocity together?
Yes. Keep Velocity for scheme settlement, prefunding and treasury across entities, and run Lumx for the Latin American accounts and payouts. Both hold USDC, so balances can move between them once both sides agree on a chain.
Which is cheaper, Lumx or Velocity?
Neither publishes a rate card. Velocity sells through enterprise quotes and shows the rate at quote time. Lumx charges a monthly platform fee plus usage-based per-transaction and virtual account fees, with transparent FX on locked quotes and no pre-funding. Compare on your actual corridors and volume.
How long does it take to migrate from Velocity to Lumx?
Integration starts the day you sign up: Lumx accounts open in a sandbox with mock partners and magic numbers. Production follows a call and KYB. Most teams move only the Latin American payouts and collections, so the work is onboarding the receiving customers, provisioning local accounts and adding purpose codes and relationship types.
Does Velocity support PIX or SPEI?
Not on its public pages as of October 2026. Velocity's site and releases name no bank rail and do not mention Brazil, Mexico or Colombia; its API documentation is password-protected, so a rail could exist there without being published. Lumx runs PIX, SPEI, PSE and Bre-B behind named local accounts.
Is Velocity licensed?
Velocity has not published a licence or registration number on its site as of October 2026. It says conversion, wallet connectivity and custody run through licensed partners, including Zodia Custody, and that it is working through EMI permissions and MiCA. Its UK companies are registered with Companies House. Lumx operates in Brazil under Article 88 of Central Bank Resolution 520/2025 and is a FinCEN-registered MSB in the US.
