Which should you choose, Lumx or Transfero?
Choose Lumx if you are building cross-border payments. An importer paying a Mexican supplier needs SPEI behind a named CLABE. A platform paying Colombian contractors needs PSE and Bre-B. A SaaS company collecting from European customers needs an IBAN in its name. A treasury wiring USD to a counterparty without a local rail needs SWIFT. A remittance app needs the rate locked before the customer confirms. Lumx has each of these in one API, with purpose codes and relationship types already modeled for Brazilian and Mexican reporting.
Choose Transfero if you are building on Brazilian crypto rails. BRZ is the most widely deployed BRL stablecoin, with daily reserve statements and 16 chains. The crypto checkout lets a merchant accept USDC, BRZ, BTC or PIX in one flow and settle in reais. The OTC desk handles institutional size. The consumer app and Mastercard give an end user a wallet and a card. And Transfero operates as a Central Bank-authorized payment institution, which matters if you want your PIX accounts under one Brazilian regulated roof.
If you need both, that is a real answer: Transfero for BRZ, checkout and OTC; Lumx for the corridors out of Brazil.
What is Transfero?
Transfero is a payments and crypto infrastructure company founded in 2015, headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, with operations in Rio de Janeiro and offices in Argentina and the Bahamas. It issues BRZ, a BRL-pegged stablecoin on 16 blockchains with daily reserve statements and on-chain auditing, plus ARZ (Argentine peso). Its BaaSiC platform offers banking infrastructure (payment accounts, PIX in and out, KYC), crypto infrastructure (custody, buy and sell, on and off-ramp, institutional OTC), a payment gateway for international companies receiving from and paying Brazilian counterparties over PIX or crypto, a crypto and PIX checkout for merchants, prepaid cards and a consumer app with a Mastercard card. The API documents accounts, PIX deposits with dynamic QR and refunds, withdrawals with payment groups, a ramp and swap flow with quote-then-accept, callbacks, and assets on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche, BSC, Chiliz, Solana, Polygon, Moonbeam, Gnosis, Base, Linea, Sonic, Unichain and Lightning. Transfero Instituição de Pagamento Ltda is authorized by Brazil's Central Bank as a payment institution; Transfero Swiss AG is a VQF-supervised VASP; Transfero Digital Platform Ltd. is registered under the Bahamas DARE Act; Transfero Gestora de Recursos is a CVM-registered asset manager. Transfero is bootstrapped.
What is Lumx?
Lumx is stablecoin payments infrastructure for businesses that move money between Latin America and the rest of the world: one API to collect, hold, convert, and pay out in BRL, MXN, COP, USD, EUR, and GBP or in USDC and USDT, over local rails such as PIX, SPEI, PSE, ACH, FEDWIRE, SEPA, and Faster Payments, with SWIFT and on-behalf-of payments and collections (POBO and COBO) in USD, EUR, and GBP, plus named virtual accounts, custodial wallets, and KYB/KYC built in.
Lumx was founded in 2022 in Rio de Janeiro and is backed by BTG Pactual, the largest investment bank in Latin America. Custodial wallets run in production, segregated per customer, on Ethereum, Polygon, Base and Tron, with Stellar for USDC on-ramps in BRL. In Brazil, Lumx SPSAV Ltda operates under Article 88 of Central Bank Resolution 520/2025; in the US, Lumx US OP LLC is a FinCEN-registered MSB (#31000316459619). Lumx processes more than $2B in annualized payment volume (as of September 2026). Customers include Nomad, Logcomex and Conta Simples.
How do Lumx and Transfero compare?
Model. Transfero is a Brazilian platform that reaches the world through stablecoins: BRL comes in over PIX, becomes BRZ, USDC, USDT or EURC, and leaves on-chain to 13 networks or Lightning. Its cross-border page lists BRL, USD, EUR, MXN and CNY in a calculator, but the API documents one fiat rail, PIX, and the "Wire" capability on the banking-infrastructure page has no API detail. Lumx is a corridor platform: fiat comes in on a local rail in one of six currencies, into a named account, and goes out on a local rail in another, with the stablecoin leg hidden from the end user. Both run PIX in and out. Lumx adds eight local rails outside Brazil and SWIFT in USD. Transfero adds Lightning, a checkout, an OTC desk and cards.
Custody. Both are custodial. Transfero offers custody and withdrawal for partners' end clients and custodies BRZ reserves at a Central Bank-authorized institution with daily statements. Lumx runs segregated custodial wallets per customer on Ethereum, Polygon, Base and Tron with real-time USDC and USDT balances, and pays out from those balances over any rail. On accounts, Transfero issues BRL payment accounts through its payment institution; Lumx issues named virtual accounts in BRL, MXN, COP, USD, EUR and GBP. Neither documents a batch payout endpoint; Transfero groups withdrawals into payment groups, Lumx runs parallel calls.
Pricing and compliance. Neither publishes plans. Transfero's ramp and swap flow returns a quote you accept before execution; its checkout advertises fees from 1%. Lumx charges a monthly platform fee plus usage-based per-transaction and virtual account fees, with transparent FX on locked quotes and no pre-funding; plans are not published, so contact sales. On compliance the two Brazilian paths differ in kind: Transfero holds an already-granted Central Bank payment-institution authorization, plus a Swiss VQF VASP registration and a Bahamas DARE registration; Lumx operates under Article 88 of Central Bank Resolution 520/2025 while its VASP authorization is processed, and holds a FinCEN-registered MSB in the US, which Transfero does not. Lumx adds Sumsub token sharing for instant approvals and KYT with Chainalysis on-chain monitoring. Neither status is a differentiator unless your corridor needs a specific one.
When is Lumx the better fit?
You pay or collect outside Brazil on local rails. SPEI behind a named CLABE, PSE and Bre-B behind a named COP account, ACH and FEDWIRE behind a named US account, SEPA behind an IBAN, Faster Payments behind a GBP account. See USDC to MXN, USDC to USD and USDC to EUR.
You collect in Brazil on a named account. PIX into agência and conta in the customer's name. See BRL to USDC and USDC to BRL.
You send USD where there is no local rail. SWIFT in USD, with POBO and COBO in USD, EUR and GBP.
You quote an end user before executing. Locked FX quotes, 30 seconds free or up to 5 minutes for a fee, spread disclosed.
Your product is fiat-to-fiat. The stablecoin leg stays invisible; your customer sees reais in and pesos or dollars out.
You want to start in the sandbox today. Lumx accounts open in a sandbox on sign-up at dashboard.lumx.io, with mock banking partners and magic numbers. Transfero's docs describe a Postman collection and API explorer; a public sandbox is not documented.
Where does Transfero fit?
BRZ. The reference BRL stablecoin: 16 chains, daily reserve statements, on-chain audit, Wormhole NTT for unified supply. Lumx does not issue a token.
Payment institution license. Transfero Instituição de Pagamento Ltda is authorized by the Central Bank; PIX accounts run under Transfero's own authorization.
Crypto and PIX checkout. One gateway for merchants, web and in-store, with VTEX integration and settlement in reais. Lumx has no merchant checkout.
Institutional OTC. A trading desk for large tickets. Lumx does not run an OTC desk.
Lightning and 13 networks. Bitcoin over Lightning through Lightspark, plus assets on Arbitrum, Avalanche, BSC, Chiliz, Solana, Moonbeam, Gnosis, Linea, Sonic and Unichain that Lumx does not settle on.
Consumer app and cards. A wallet, a Mastercard card and prepaid cards for partners. Lumx is API-only.
Ten years in Brazilian crypto. Founded 2015, bootstrapped, offices in four countries.
Can you use Lumx and Transfero together?
Yes, and this is the common pattern. Transfero holds BRZ, checkout, OTC and consumer surfaces; Lumx holds the corridors: named accounts and local rails in Mexico, Colombia, the US, the eurozone and the UK, and SWIFT in USD. Both settle USDC on Ethereum, Polygon and Base, so a balance moves between them on-chain. Both expose callbacks or webhooks and a quote-then-confirm flow.
How do you migrate from Transfero to Lumx?
Most teams add Lumx rather than migrate, but if you are moving cross-border flows:
Map Transfero accounts to Lumx customers. Both run KYC for individuals and KYB for businesses. Lumx adds a holder relationship (SUPPLIER, EMPLOYEE, SUBSIDIARY and others) on third-party destinations and a purpose code on each payment.
Open a sandbox at dashboard.lumx.io. New accounts start in a sandbox with mock banking partners; magic numbers on taxId force approved, rejected or pending verification.
Add named accounts in the currencies you need. BRL with agência and conta for PIX, plus MXN, COP, USD, EUR and GBP as your corridors require.
Move stablecoin balances on-chain. Convert BRZ to USDC or USDT on Transfero and transfer to the customer's Lumx custodial wallet on Ethereum, Polygon or Base.
Swap ramp quotes for locked quotes. Request a locked quote (30 s free, 1 or 5 minutes for a fee), show it, confirm inside the window.
Subscribe to webhooks and run parallel. Send Idempotency-Key on every mutation, reconcile both ledgers for one cycle, then move production traffic. Read the docs or talk to us.
Methodology and sources
This page reflects both companies' public documentation as of September 2026. Transfero facts come from its homepage, the cross-border payments, banking infrastructure, BRZ and licenses pages, and docs.transfero.com's getting-started, available-assets and llms.txt pages, fetched on 16 September 2026 (docs.transfero.com does not resolve as of this revision; unlinked pending confirmation); company history, BRZ metrics and product details not on the current site are from March 2026 research notes. Transfero's 2025 volume figure was not cited: the value rendered without JavaScript looks like an animated counter's initial state. Lumx facts come from docs.lumx.io and the verified-facts register. Where Transfero does not document a capability, this page says so rather than that it does not exist. Regulation is two different Brazilian paths, Transfero's already granted and Lumx's in authorization, not an advantage for either side. Spot an error? Tell us.

FAQ
Is Lumx a replacement for Transfero?
For cross-border payments, Lumx covers what Transfero's API does not: SPEI, PSE, Bre-B, ACH, FEDWIRE, SEPA, Faster Payments and SWIFT in USD, with named accounts in six currencies. It does not replace BRZ, the crypto and PIX checkout, the OTC desk or the consumer app. Most teams that use both keep both.
Can you use Lumx and Transfero together?
Yes. Transfero for BRZ, checkout, OTC and cards; Lumx for the corridors out of Brazil and for named accounts outside BRL. Both settle USDC on Ethereum, Polygon and Base, so balances move between them on-chain.
Which is cheaper, Lumx or Transfero?
Neither publishes plans. Transfero's checkout advertises fees from 1% and its ramp returns a quote you accept before execution. Lumx charges a monthly platform fee plus usage-based per-transaction and virtual account fees, with transparent FX on locked quotes and no pre-funding; plans are not published, so contact sales. Compare on your corridor and volume.
How long does it take to migrate from Transfero to Lumx?
Integration starts the day you sign up, since Lumx accounts open in a sandbox with mock partners and magic numbers. Production follows a call and KYB. Accounts map to customers, ramp quotes to locked quotes, and the main data-model work is adding purpose codes and relationship types.
Does Transfero support payments outside Brazil?
Through stablecoins, yes: BRL comes in over PIX and leaves as BRZ, USDC, USDT or EURC on 13 networks or Lightning, and Transfero counts 168+ pay-out markets that way. Local fiat rails outside Brazil are not in Transfero's public API. Lumx runs local rails and named accounts in MXN, COP, USD, EUR and GBP as well as BRL.
Is BRZ used by Lumx?
No. Lumx settles in USDC and USDT on Ethereum, Polygon, Base and Tron, plus Stellar for BRL on-ramps, and does not issue or settle in BRZ. A team that wants BRZ exposure keeps Transfero for that and can move USDC between the two platforms on-chain.
