FAQ

What is CLABE?

CLABE is a standardized and unique banking identifier for accounts in Mexico. The Mexican Banking Association (ABM) describes CLABE as consisting of 18 digits: bank (3), branch/city code (3), account number (11), and a check digit (1) used to validate the structure.

Why is there a check digit?

The check digit validates the structural integrity of the number and helps reduce routing errors and rejections caused by incorrect account data.

Does SPEI operate 24/7?

Documents from the Bank of Mexico (Banco de México) describe SPEI as operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with high availability.

How long should a SPEI transfer take?

According to official documentation about the system, Banco de México describes near real-time processing with average settlement around ~1.9 seconds. In practice, end-to-end times may vary depending on banks, connectivity, and internal processing steps.

How can you verify a SPEI payment?

Banco de México provides the CEP (Comprobante Electrónico de Pago) lookup for SPEI payments and indicates consultation hours of 09:30–23:00 (Mon–Sun).
