Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about the onboarding process.

What is the difference between Business (PJ) and Individual (PF) registration?

Business registration (KYB) is for companies operating with Lumx products — it requires corporate documentation, a legal representative, UBOs, and a business questionnaire. Individual registration (KYC) is for natural persons and only requires personal data, an ID document, and liveness verification. Most Lumx clients operate as businesses.

Does my company also need to register individuals?

Yes. Even in the business flow, you must register the legal representative and all UBOs (Ultimate Beneficial Owners with over 25% ownership) as associated persons. Each one will go through individual verification with an ID document and liveness check.

What is a UBO and how do I know who needs to be declared?

A UBO (Ultimate Beneficial Owner) is any natural person who directly or indirectly holds more than 25% ownership in the company. If the company has corporate shareholders, you need to trace up the ownership chain until you reach the natural persons who control the structure.

What is the difference between Standard and Extended KYB?

Standard is the simplified level for operations in BRL (Brazilian Real) and MXN (Mexican Peso). Extended is the full level required for USD (US Dollar) and EUR (Euro) operations — it includes everything in Standard plus proof of address, source of funds declaration, estimated annual revenue, and detailed activity and vendor information.

How long does verification take?

The SLA is 2 business days for Standard and 3 business days for Extended, counted from the complete submission of all documentation. Pending items or incorrect documents reset the timeline.

What if I need higher transaction limits?

Limits above the standard thresholds require Enhanced KYC/B — a process conducted directly with Lumx's Compliance team involving in-depth analysis of additional documentation. You can request this via API or directly through your operations contact.

What happens if my documentation is rejected?

You will receive a TEMPORARY_REJECTION status with details on what needs to be corrected or resubmitted. Simply send the additional documentation via API (the /additional-information endpoint) or through the verification link. If the rejection is final (FINAL_REJECTION), the customer will not be able to operate.

Which corporate documents are mandatory?

For both tiers: Articles of Association / Incorporation, Register of Members (Shareholders), and Register of Directors. For the Extended tier, a business Proof of Address is also required.

What documents does the legal representative need to submit?

Full personal data (name, date of birth, CPF/TIN, address, phone, and email), an ID document (passport or national ID), and liveness verification. For the Extended tier, a personal proof of address is also required.

Which documents are optional or conditional?

Balance Sheet and Corporate Chart are optional in both tiers. For Extended, a regulatory license / AML practices document is conditional (required if the company operates in a regulated activity), and Income Statements or other supporting documents are optional.

What format and language should documents be in?

Documents must be in PDF or image format (JPG/PNG), legible, and up to date. Documents in languages other than English, Portuguese, or Spanish may require a certified translation.

My company is in a restricted country. Can I operate?

No. Companies incorporated or operating in prohibited jurisdictions (Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Syria, Russia, Belarus, Venezuela, among others) cannot be onboarded. Companies in high-risk jurisdictions (China, Colombia, Nigeria, among others) can operate but automatically undergo Enhanced KYB review.

Which activities are prohibited?

Illegal activities, fraud/scams, unregulated gambling, unregulated financial services, prohibited goods, unregulated investment/credit, and high financial risk entities.

Do I need to accept any terms before starting?

Yes. Before starting the verification process, the company must accept Lumx's Terms of Service. This is done via API at customer creation time (tosAccepted field).

Does Lumx perform ongoing monitoring after approval?

Yes. Even after KYB approval, transactions are continuously monitored to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Significant changes in corporate structure or transaction profile may trigger re-verification.

Where can I find the complete technical documentation for integration?

All API documentation, integration guides, and compliance references are available at docs.lumx.io. Key guides include: Create a Customer, Business Verification (KYB), Individual Verification (KYC), and Identity Verification (compliance).
