Case Study
Settlement in minutes, not 3-5 business days: how Blimboo moves travel payments across USD, BRL, MXN and EUR on stablecoin rails.

About Blimboo
Blimboo is a growing multi-currency payments platform for the travel industry. It lets Brazilian travel agencies and tour operators collect and make payments in currencies such as BRL, USD and EUR, through boleto, Pix and credit card. Travel is a business that lives across borders by definition: a single trip can involve a Brazilian client, a Mexican hotel and a European airline. The money behind it, however, has always moved slower than the business.
The challenge
When a travel agency needs to pay an international supplier, the traditional path runs through FX brokers, correspondent banks and a SWIFT transfer that takes 3-5 business days to settle. Each intermediary in that chain adds cost, delay and opacity: the agency knows when the money left, but not exactly where it is, when it will arrive or how much will be lost along the way.
For SMBs operating in foreign currency, FX and conversion costs have historically been one of the biggest barriers to doing business at all. In travel, the problem compounds: margins are thin, bookings are time-sensitive, and working capital locked in transit for a week is capital the operator cannot use to sell the next trip. Rebuilding that money movement layer internally would have pulled Blimboo into banking relationships, custody and compliance far from its core product. The strategic question was clear. How could Blimboo make moving money between currencies as fast as booking the trip itself?
How Lumx solved it
Blimboo built its cross-border engine on Lumx. First, every Blimboo end client gets a stablecoin wallet (USDC/USDT) under Lumx custody, which becomes the hub for moving value between currencies. Second, Lumx provides the on/off ramp between that wallet and USD, BRL, MXN and EUR, so a balance collected in one currency can be converted and paid out in another without passing through a chain of correspondent banks. Third, because transactions settle on stablecoin rails, every movement is traceable, which brings the transparency that traditional intermediated FX never offered.
Lumx absorbs the custody, the regulatory and operational complexity and the settlement infrastructure. Blimboo keeps the relationship with agencies and operators, the checkout experience in boleto, Pix and card, and its own product roadmap. The client sees Blimboo; the rails work in the background.
Results
Settlement that took 3-5 business days over SWIFT now completes in minutes, and the end client experience of moving between currencies happens in seconds. For a travel operator, that is working capital freed from transit: money collected from a client in BRL can pay a supplier in USD or EUR within the same day it arrives, instead of a week later.
Cutting out multiple banking intermediaries also cut what they charged. Lower FX and conversion costs flow directly into the margins of agencies and operators, in an industry where those costs were historically one of the biggest barriers for SMBs working with foreign currency. And because every transaction is visible on the rail, reconciliation and client support got simpler as volume grows.
Key takeaways
In cross-border payments, the slowest and most expensive part was never the customer-facing product, it was the chain of intermediaries underneath it. By putting a stablecoin wallet at the center of each client's money flow and letting Lumx handle custody, ramps and settlement, Blimboo replaced that chain with a rail that settles in minutes and shows every step. It is a repeatable pattern for any platform whose customers move money across currencies and lose margin and days to the intermediated FX chain.
